Founder’s story
The company founder, Hoala Greevy, has worked in the email industry for the past 25 years.
Out of college, he joined an email hosting company based in San Francisco. In 2001, he made his way back to Hawaii, where he was born and raised, and started a Linux consulting business. His clients continually mentioned their growing problems related to spam and viruses, so in 2002 Hoala created Pauspam, an email filtering service and the first-ever SaaS company in Hawaii.
Pauspam evolved into Paubox because of customer feedback. In 2014, Hoala sat down with the CEO of Make-a-Wish Hawaii to discuss their business problems. As the branch of Make-a-Wish that granted the most wishes of any organization in the country at that time, it had a great need to share and manage files securely while remaining HIPAA compliant. Hoala built Paubox as a solution to the organization’s problem. As a result, Paubox grew into the most trusted HIPAA compliant email encryption service in the U.S. today, securing nearly 70 million emails a month.
