I had afternoon coffee with Miki Tomita at Kaimuki Superette on Monday. We first met some years ago while volunteering for Senator Akaka's 2006 re-election campaign. In addition to having her Doctorate in Education from Stanford University, she is also a Hokulea crew member and co-founder of the Education Incubator.
Here are some of my takeaways from our afternoon coffee:
- She recently presented at Wet Ware Wednesday.
- "I have great faith in placing resources with kids."
- She is developing an Expert Network.
- "Hokulea has been on a shock and awe campaign around the world." (Agreed!)
- The Education Incubator is launching its prototype program this fall.
About Education Incubator
The non-profit Education Incubator was started in 2015 by Dr. Miki. K. Tomita and Stephanie Shipton. After working within various levels of the education system, Dr. Tomita and Ms. Shipton partnered on the Hawaii State Department of Education’s groundbreaking Future Ready Learning Initiative. It was through this work that Dr. Tomita and Ms. Shipton made the connection to merge their worlds of practice, academics, policy, and systems thinking. The Education Incubator was born out of this.
