Does Cable ONE offer HIPAA compliant email?

 Cable ONE is among the 10 largest cable companies in the U.S. and is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. It serves nearly 700,000 customers in 19 states with cable television, high-speed Internet, and telephone services. If a HIPAA covered entity is using Cable ONE for their email service, the question naturally arises: Does Cable ONE offer HIPAA Compliant Email?

Cable ONE and the Business Associate Agreement

We’ve covered in previous posts that a Business Associate Agreement is a written contract between a covered entity and a Business Associate. It is required by law for HIPAA compliant email. We searched the CableONE website high and low for any mention of HIPAA, HIPAA Compliance, or Business Associate Agreement. As you can see from the screenshot below, Cable ONE makes no mention of HIPAA anywhere on their website. This is not a good sign if you need HIPAA compliant email protection.

Conclusion: Is CableOne HIPAA compliant?

Cable ONE gets a failing grade on being a HIPAA compliant email provider. They make no mention of HIPAA compliance or whether they will sign a Business Associate Agreement with customers. Without any mention of HIPAA on their website, we are left to conclude that Cable ONE is not a HIPAA compliant email provider.
