When Paubox launched in 2015, an employee handbook was tomorrow's problem. First, we needed ship a product, acquire and iterate on customer feedback, then publish content that let others know about their success. Rinse and repeat. Over and over. Back then, it was critical to spend time on the things that truly mattered. Fast forward a couple years, we got to the point where it became painfully obvious we needed an employee handbook. People wanted to know things like the holiday schedule, medical and dental benefits, dress code, etc. From what I recall, it was right around when we hit a dozen full-time staff. Then when we began our HITRUST CSF certification journey in 2018, our employee handbook attained binder-like proportions. Now that our staff is at 25 and the 2020 election is around the corner, I felt it was time to spend time on something that also truly matters: Augmenting the Paubox holiday calendar. During our staff meeting today, I declared Election Day (November 3rd) as a paid holiday. A caveat, if you will, is that I expect 100% voter turnout in exchange for the extra day off. Since we're a remote company (who isn't these days), here are quick links to register to vote in the states our staff reside in:
To be clear, I don't care who our staff votes for. I just feel it's important to vote and to provide adequate opportunity to do so, no matter the title, salary, or position. Over the span of time, I believe we will be ahead of the curve on this. See Also: How We Achieved 100% Voter Turnout at Paubox
