SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 3, 2016– Digital health startup Paubox was accepted into the 500 Startups accelerator program as part of Batch 18. Located in Silicon Valley, 500 Startups is a top-tier global venture capital seed fund and startup accelerator and with less than 4% of applicants accepted into the batch.
Paubox focuses on making HIPAA compliant email encryption easy to use by eliminating extra steps. Users are able to write and send emails as normal from any device, and recipients are able to view emails without logging into portals or downloading an app. The company also offers an API for developers to encrypt emails from applications. The company’s initial focus is on the healthcare industry, but has also seen traction and interest from other regulated industries that necessitates secure communications. “With all the news about ransomware and privacy breaches, cybersecurity has been a growing concern for healthcare recently,” said founder and CEO Hoala Greevy. “More organizations are looking for a solution they can implement quickly and easily. Because Paubox focuses on a seamless user experience, there’s been very little training needed for our customers to quickly deploy our email encryption solution.” Greevy will also be the first Native Hawaiian founder to take a company through the accelerator. Diversity has been a focus of 500 Startups, which also launched a $25 million microfund in June dedicated to supporting Black and Latino entrepreneurs. Since January this year, Paubox has tripled its growth to over 300 customers in 43 states and Guam, and continues to show strong growth month-over-month. Already profitable, the startup looks to take advantage of 500 Startups’ program to accelerate their growth. Paubox is a provider of HIPAA compliant email encryption that requires no extra steps for the user. Instead of remembering passwords, downloading software, or using a portal, users just write and send email as normal from any device and Paubox seamlessly provides encryption.
