HIPAA Breaches Ranked by People Affected
Top Three Breach Types
- Email breaches regained the top spot with 336,666 people's PHI hacked or stolen in January. This is the first time it's taken the #1 spot since the October Breach Report.
- Other breaches ranked second with PHI of 81,242 people breached.
- Desktop Computer breaches came in third with 33,584 people having their PHI breached.
Bottom Three Breach Types
- Laptop ranked as the lowest number of people's PHI being breached in January with 10,866 breaches.
- Network Server was the second lowest type of breach as ranked by people affected with 12,381.
- Paper/Films was the third lowest type of breach as ranked by people affected with 16,198.
HIPAA Breaches Ranked by Occurrence
The Most Common
- Email took the top spot as the most common breach type in January with an astounding 17 reported breaches. Email has taken the top rank in this category for 10 of the past 11 months.
- Other and Paper/Films each came in tied for second 5 breaches each.
- Desktop Computer came in third with 3 reported breaches in January.
Takeaways
Email led the pack in the February Breach Report, both in the amount of People's PHI hacked and the number of breaches. Much as it did in 2018, Email has continued to dominate the Paubox HIPAA breach reports in 2019.Full Data
