Every industry greatly benefits from innovation, including healthcare. However, without regulation, innovation becomes a free-for-all. But where is the line between hurting and helping when it comes to regulating healthcare innovation? We’ll tackle this question at our upcoming virtual healthcare cybersecurity conference, Paubox SECURE @ Home , during an insightful discussion with Carrie Nixon, co-founder and managing partner of Nixon Gwilt Law, and Mike Parisi, VP of assurance strategy and community development at HITRUST.

Innovation regulation: helpful or harmful?

Innovation within the healthcare industry is a must. Without it, patients continue to be treated with outdated, routine treatments. The slow progress of the healthcare digital transformation means that in 2020 much of the industry is still using a fax machine .   However, regulatory laws can have a positive impact on healthcare innovation. An environment can be created that encourages businesses to develop and utilize new technology or business models that effectively serve consumers’ needs.  On the other hand, regulatory laws can end up protecting the status-quo or existing business models, stifling innovation. Rules and regulations that don’t adapt to the changing times leave healthcare in the past. This is especially important now that the COVID-19 pandemic has made telehealth more important than ever.  During this panel, you’ll hear first-hand experiences dealing with healthcare innovation and the regulations that come with it from Mike Parisi and Carrie Nixon.

Mike Parisi is the vice president of assurance strategy and community development at HITRUST . He assesses current assurance programs and determines needed enhancements to address organizational security and privacy challenges in the marketplace.  At HITRUST, Mike spearheaded new assurance programs and strategies to address emerging customer challenges and privacy and security regulations. Mike educates organizations on the multiple attributes of the HITRUST approach, including resource savings in time and money. Additionally, Mike also leads HITRUST’s community efforts to further adopt HITRUST standards and programs across multiple industries, global geographies, and regulatory bodies.
