As part of the inaugural Health IT Proclamation Day & Heroes Recognition Conference for the HIMSS Hawaii-Alaska Chapter, I made sure to listen to its two keynote speakers, Dr. Josh Green and Dr. Anne Zink. Dr. Josh Green is the the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. Dr. Anne Zink is the Chief Medical Officer for the state of Alaska. Being lucky enough to live in both Alaska and Hawaii this year during the pandemic, this conference was of special relevance to me. In fact, as part of our goal to achieve 100% voter turnout at Paubox, I mailed my ballot from a post office in Soldotna, AK. Lt. Governor Josh Green: Pandemic Lessons Learned from a Leadership Perspective
Here are my takeaways from Lt. Governor Green's presentation:
- Lt. Governor Green issued a Proclamation today to recognize Health Information Tech workers in Hawaii.
- Hawaii recently had the lowest COVID-19 infection rates of any state.
- Hawaii struggled in July and August with COVID fatigue. This lead to large gatherings during the summer, which lead to a surge in transmission.
- Hawaii saw a 99.6% decrease in travelers during COVID-19.
- Hawaii emulated what Alaska did around its Safe Travels program.
- "We are cognizant things could change on a dime."
- "Our assessment is that we can recover in 6-9 months if we have travel in place."
- 380,000 out of 1.4M individuals in Hawaii are now on Medicaid. That's 27% of the population.
- 43% of Hawaii residents have symptoms of mental health issues.
- 20% of Hawaii residents have Food Insecurity.
