Paubox blog: HIPAA compliant email made easy

Paubox customers: Paubox Zoom social mixer (July 2024)

Written by Dean Levitt | July 19, 2024

The Paubox Zoom social mixer for June 2024 was a roundtable discussion between Paubox customers covering topics like healthcare email marketing, Paubox forms, current events, and where to find the latest cybersecurity news.

What happened

July's social mixer followed our now-standard format - a free-flowing, open-ended discussion amongst healthcare IT and cybersecurity professionals.

This month, the conversation frequently revolved around email marketing, mainly how drip campaigns can be used for both marketing and educational purposes.

We also reviewed the latest Paubox Texting features like conversation threads and keyboard shortcuts. We shared some articles from HIPAA Times as well as favorite cybersecurity podcasts.

Of course, AI was touched upon, particularly as Paubox will soon incorporate AI into Paubox Texting.

Our takeaways:

  • We're all affected by current events, often more so than we let on. Do healthcare providers have a responsibility to avoid these topics with patients? Maybe not.
    • Attendees felt it was okay to admit when one was impacted by the news.
    • This is why we do these social mixers - We need a place to discuss tough subjects amongst peers.
  • Healthcare marketers would like more design options in email marketing templates.
  • Creative ideas for drip campaigns discussed were:
    • Open enrollment campaigns
    • Pre- and post-natal educational email automation
    • Back-to-school email campaigns
    • Appointment follow-ups
    • New client email campaigns
  • We took a brief detour from healthcare to discuss cocktails and foam. One attendee recently had beet juice + gin with Absynthe foam. Another had an espresso martini with foam. Is this a trend?
  • Should IT directors allow staff to build their own forms within Paubox?
    • Giving access to non-IT or security staff was a controversial discussion, with opinions ranging from a hard no to a tentative yes, but with oversight.
  • Paubox customers want to download their form data as CSV files.
    • This is to survey both patients and caregivers, and the download will help capture and collate data from the surveys.
  • Conditional flows in forms is a common feature request, and is on the way in Paubox Forms.
  • The attendees shared podcast suggestions, particularly around cybersecurity. Recommended podcasts were:
  • Since ChatGPT's launch, everyone has seen an increase in phishing attempts.
    • Some attendees use AI to craft phishing training campaigns.
    • A zero-trust approach is warranted to stay safe.
  • After discussing AT&T and Change Healthcare breaches, attendees wondered how smaller organizations can protect themselves considering the large enterprises struggle.
    • The fundamentals matter - training, strong passwords, and multi-factor authentication generally work well for organizations of all sizes.

The bottom line: Paubox customers use a broad range of tools and strategies to keep their email HIPAA compliant, protect their organizations, and find efficiencies.
