1. Continued Maui wildfire relief - Paubox matching donation program
Paubox will match up to $5,000 of donations made to the Maui Strong Fund, either via our customers or staff.
What's happening: Last week, we donated $1,000 to the Maui Strong Fund. In addition, Paubox will offer a year of free service for any solution at any usage level to any organization assisting or affected by the Maui wildfires.
Why it matters: Paubox was created in Hawaii. This is our backyard.

2. The 2023 Paubox Kahikina STEM Scholarship recipients are...
Ten Native Hawaiians have been selected for the 2023 cohort of the Paubox Kahikina STEM Scholarship.
The Scholarship: The primary objective of the Paubox Kahikina STEM Scholarship is to encourage Native Hawaiians to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

3. UnitedHealthcare settles with HHS over right of access violation
UnitedHealthcare settled with the OCR over a HIPAA right of access violation. The Privacy Rule's right of access provision mandates that patients should be able to access their health data promptly.
What they're saying: OCR Director Melanie Fontes Rainer noted, "OCR will continue to ensure that covered entities with a record of delaying or denying access requests will be subject to enforcement."
The bottom line: UHC will implement a corrective action plan and pay an $80,000 settlement to resolve the investigation.

4. Surge in health data breach lawsuits are a growing concern
Victim's of cyberattacks are not only dealing with the aftermath of the breach but are also facing a surge in litigation costs, as revealed by a Bloomberg Law analysis.
What's happening: The health sector is a goldmine for cyber-criminals. As the health industry integrates more technology, the risk of breaches—and litigation—may continue its upward trajectory

5. Judge allows class action case against Meta to move forward
Meta moved to dismiss a class action claim against their use of the Meta Pixel. The judge said the case is allowed to move forward.
What happened: Over a year ago, a class action lawsuit was lodged against Meta, alleging that tracking by the Meta Pixel violated patient privacy. A report found that the Meta Pixel was collecting patient names, medical conditions, and appointment dates.
