1. Google Research expert explains AI doesn’t always require private data
At HLTH 2023, Google's Senior Vice President of Technology & Society broke down a common misconception among those exploring AI.
What they're saying: In an interview with Axios journalist Erin Brodwin, James Manyika dispelled a common misperception. "This presumption, particularly in the age of AI, that all of [Google's advancements] require personal data, I think, is mistaken."
Manyika went on to explain that the majority of his projects with Google Research aid in healthcare without infringing on private data.

3. Minnesota Supreme Court rules healthcare data can be used in fundraising
The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that healthcare entities can utilize patient data for fundraising without explicit consent, citing an exemption under HIPAA.
What happened: The case was brought to court by parents Kelly and Evarist Schneider, who sued Minnesota's Children's Hospital and Clinics after a data breach exposed their child's PHI.
