We've been seeing more vendors, customers, and prospects asking about HIPAA compliant services. This is especially true now as we see an accelerated, long overdue adoption of digital transformation in healthcare. Since Paubox is a Business Associate to thousands of customers, we’ve been wondering if they are able to use Zoom Chat in a HIPAA compliant manner.
UPDATE: In April 2020, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the Notification of Enforcement Discretion, which allows healthcare providers to use widely available communication apps, such as [name of the app], for telehealth services without the risk of incurring HIPAA fines. If a Business Associate provides services to a Covered Entity, then a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) must be in place.
