July social mixer at Hawthorne in San Francisco

July social mixer at Hawthorne in San Francisco

Last night we held our July Social Mixer at Hawthorne in downtown San Francisco. We had a robust turnout that included customers, prospects, friends, advocates, staff and new friends. Head of Sales Greg Hoffman and Senior Account Executive Shannon Honda did a great job organizing and promoting the event. After a long day at the office, it was stellar team building amongst our staff.

Level Therapy in the house

Coley Williams and Carter Wall of Level Therapy caught us up on the latest with their startup. Carter recently joined the team while co-founder Dan Miller was in Washington, D.C. competing and winning in a pitch event. Congrats! Level Therapy was part of our digital health batch at 500 Startups last fall and are also customers of ours. We love what they are doing.

Leapcure and the Origin of the Commish

Tyler "Commish" Dornenburg, co-founder of Leapcure, made sure to stop by and stoke the fire. Always great to be around the Commish. Tyler yielded his nickname during our time together at 500 Startups last fall. He started and managed a fantasy football league within the batch so I started calling him the Commish. As with all great nicknames, the Commish finished in last place. Haha too classic.

UPDATE: We received an email rebuttal from the Commish:

The controversy lingers.

Paubox Advocates

Shane Takeshita and Cailin Pitcher stopped by as well. I was introduced to Shane from our friend/advisor/investor Dean Levitt. Shane is an outstanding person and I met Cailin via his network. They are both strong Paubox advocates and I'm thankful to them for it. Mahalo! SEE ALSO: Sequoia One: The Grove Event Takeaways

Grindz

It wouldn't be a proper Paubox Social Mixer without food from Grindz Restaurant. We've ordered 500 spam musubi, 500 kalua pig and rice bowls, organized fireside chats, and hosted a multitude social mixers at 500 Startups via food catered from Grindz. We love those guys. I also brought some salmon sashimi I caught last weekend off my kayak. Can't wait to get out there again.

Team Paubox

Team Paubox unwinding after a long day

Team Paubox showed up near full force last night. It was great to have engineering ( Jonathan "BBQ" Greeley and Renee Char) there with us. I think it was a welcome respite from a hectic week. Our newest hire, Arianna Etemadieh, also joined us. It was her first Paubox social mixer.

Shannon Honda takes the mic

Shannon "Filibuster" Honda took the mic shortly after 7pm and got a game going with the crowd. The objective was to answer a trivia question about Hawaii by replying to an email. The question, delivered via Paubox Suite to everyone in attendance, was:

  • What is the Hawaii State Motto? (In Hawaiian or English is okay)

Shannon told me later that someone from Hawaii (to remain anonymous) thought the answer was, "Live Aloha." Yikes! The correct answer is here. Winners went home with Paubox coffee mugs and other company swag. All in all, it was a great event and we're looking forward to doing another social mixer in August. Looking forward to the future!

About Hawthorne and the Bonaparte Room

July Social Mixer at Hawthorne in San Francisco - Paubox

Hawthorne is a few blocks from Union Square and is situated within a beautiful brick basement. We held our mixer in the Bonaparte Room, which provided a more hidden experience in the back of the venue.
