Last night we were delighted to see THE WIZ at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco.
What’s happening: Thanks to my wife, we got last minute tickets to the Pre-Broadway tour of THE WIZ. The Golden Gate Theatre is a 15 minute walk from the Paubox office.
From the playbill: “This ground-breaking musical changed the face of Broadway when it first opened in 1975. Not only did THE WIZ delight audiences with a fresh mix of musical styles rarely heard in shows of its time, but it also celebrated Black artistry and joy, providing revolutionary representation for a community so often excluded from the theatre world.
San Francisco is one of the few cities this Broadway-bound production will visit before it opens at the Marquis Theatre in New York this April. We have the added honor of being the first city to welcome five-time Emmy Award-winner Wayne Brady to the cast, playing the titular role of 'The Wiz.'"
Why it matters: Contrary to what's frequently in the news, I do like living in San Francisco. Attending musicals like this, with my wife, are part of the reason why.
The bottom line: Costumes, choreography, and artistic creativity were outstanding. It's on my top five musical list. Plus, Wayne Brady.
