Howzit!
Here are six books I read this fall.
What's happening: As mentioned in my spring and summer reading lists this year, I'm constantly looking to learn and level up.
Why it matters: As President Harry S. Truman once said, "not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers."
Here's the list:
- Post-Acquisition Marketing: How to Create Enterprise Value in the First 100 Days by Shiv Narayanan. As a thought experiment, I read this book to see what we can learn from private equity as it relates to scaling a SaaS business. To be clear, I'm not burnt out and we're not looking to sell. We're looking to efficiently scale.
- STFU: The Power of Keeping Your Mouth Shut in an Endlessly Noisy World by Dan Lyons. My score of 25 on the Talkaholic scale puts me in a normal range and thus not in jeopardy of being considered a talkaholic. Nonetheless, this was an insightful read and I discovered some bad talking habits I should avoid.
- Winner Sells All: Amazon, Walmart, and the Battle for Our Wallets by Jason Del Rey. I became aware of Jason's coverage of Amazon during his podcast series on Season One of Vox Media's Land of the Giants. As I read this book, the Walmart coverage was more interesting to me, as most of the Amazon content was already familiar.
- aol.com: How Steve Case Beat Bill Gates, Nailed the Netheads, and Made Millions in the War for the Web by Kara Swisher. A captivating read, written before the launch of Google, when Amazon was only selling books, and before AOL's merger with Time Warner. It's Kara's first book. Also, I'm a big fan.
- Plunder: Private Equity's Plan to Pillage America by Brendan Ballou. How are private equity firms getting away with this stuff? Now I understand how I got a $4,000 ambulance bill (not eligible for insurance) for a one mile ride back in 2018. An amazing and depressing read.
- Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon by Michael Lewis. This is the book about disgraced crypto founder Sam Bankman-Fried. He has my vote for the worst businessman of the decade. Also in the running for worst businessman of the 21st century.

The bottom line: Hit me up if you have a book to recommend.
